There is a temporary shortage of relief first class pilots and relief engineers on the Great Lakes. As a result, American Maritime Officers is allowing AMO deep-sea mates with Great Lakes pilotage and AMO deep-sea engineers interested in working relief on the Great Lakes while on paid vacation to fill these relief assignments until the shortage no longer exists. Most of the relief assignments on the Great Lakes are for periods of 30 days.
