The U.S.-flagged multipurpose cargo ship BBC Seattle will get underway this week to begin service under charter to Military Sealift Command, adding new jobs for the membership of American Maritime Officers.
Teras BBC Ocean Navigation Enterprises Houston LLC was awarded an MSC charter for worldwide cargo service supporting the Department of Defense, including resupply operations between the U.S. and Arabian Gulf. With all contract options exercised, the charter would extend for approximately five years. General Dynamics American Overseas Marine is providing crew management services for the BBC Seattle, which is manned in all licensed positions by AMO officers.
"The addition of another BBC vessel to the U.S.-flag fleet brings new jobs to our membership in an encouraging continuation of a positive trend," said AMO National President Tom Bethel. "AMO is excited to be working with Teras and AMSEA aboard the BBC Seattle under this charter."
AMO officers also sail with Teras America and AMSEA aboard the U.S.-flagged heavy-lift ship BBC Houston in international trades.
Built in 1999, the BBC Seattle is approximately 500 feet long and is equipped to carry a variety of cargoes. The U.S. flag was raised aboard the ship April 28. The re-flag team for the BBC Seattle was composed of First Assistant Engineer Kevin Hogle, Port Engineer Matt Burnett, Chief Engineer Matt Campbell, and Chief Mate Peter Kirk.
