The following article was submitted by Captain Mike Finnigan, master of the M/V Alliance Charleston, which is operated by Argent Marine in the Maritime Security Program fleet and is manned in all licensed positions by American Maritime Officers.
The AMO officers and the crew aboard the M/V Alliance Charleston, operated by Argent Marine, keep the Persian Gulf-East Coast supply line open with on-time delivery service.
Many of the officers onboard have worked with Military Sealift Command, the Department of Defense, the U.S. Transportation Command and the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command in the past and over the years on various AMO-manned vessels. Having the chance to support them once again, to move their cargo and transit the Persian Gulf, is a great opportunity.
The AMO officers aboard, along with Argent Marine, have an outstanding track record supporting U.S. military operations around the world. Working with Argent Marine, the officers and crew take pride in maintaining a non-stop op-tempo. SDDC, DOD and Argent Marine have put a lot of trust in knowing that the AMO officers and SIU crew can get the job done.
With cargo operations, security team support, pirate watches in high-risk waters and the onboard safety culture, the officers and crew are doing a great job. To have a few soldiers aboard for meals, and taking the time to go out of their way to stop and say 'hello' and 'thank you' to the troops in Kuwait, the officers and crew are always great ambassadors of the AMO and SIU, Argent Marine, the U.S. merchant marine, DOD support, SDDC, MSC and the USA.
