New AMO jobs aboard the Alliance Charleston in MSP fleet

The roll-on/roll-off ship Alliance Charleston has entered service in the Maritime Security Program fleet with members of American Maritime Officers manning the vessel in all licensed positions.

Argent Marine Operations Inc. is operating the Alliance Charleston, which has replaced the tanker Maersk Michigan in the MSP fleet. The Maersk Michigan is now being operated by Maersk Line, Limited and remains in service supporting Military Sealift Command missions. AMO also represents all licensed officers working aboard the Maersk Michigan.

"The ongoing expansion of our union's job base is encouraging, and AMO is proud to assist in maintaining the vital services provided by these vessels to the Defense Department and MSC, as well as the U.S.-flag commercial fleet," said AMO National President Tom Bethel. "The MSP fleet is a source of success and efficiency and the Alliance Charleston is a great fit with AMO officers onboard. We're looking forward to the continuation of our union's productive relationship with Argent Marine aboard this ship."

In addition to providing sealift service for the DOD, the Alliance Charleston operates in a commercial trade calling at ports on the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts and in the Middle East.

Built in 2008, the Alliance Charleston is 750 feet in length with a beam of 105 feet and a capacity of 7,900 car equivalent units.
