Silence speaks volumes

Within 24 hours of the circulation of links on AMO Currents to MEBA President Mike Jewell's video statement on the YouTube and the MEBA United Web sites describing his union's ongoing status as a "rogue union" under sanctions from the AFL-CIO, the MEBA United Web site vanished from the World Wide Web and the video clip on YouTube was swept under a privacy shield blocking public access.

An audio recording of Jewell's statement remains available online.

In his most recent campaign for the office of president of the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association, Jewell posted a detailed video statement accurately describing MEBA as a "rogue union" that remains under sanctions from the AFL-CIO for violating Article XX of the Federation's constitution by raiding the Interlake Steamship Company fleet on two occasions while a valid AMO collective bargaining agreement was in place. The video statement was openly available until yesterday afternoon.

Some users may need to adjust the volume on the audio player displayed in the Web browser. Some Mac users may need to download a Windows browser accessory to play the audio clip. That accessory can be downloaded for free online.
