USNS Effective attains 10-year safety benchmark

By Capt. Andrew Laska
Master, USNS Effective (T-AGOS-21)

The USNS Effective leads the Maersk Line Ltd. fleet in the number of days without a lost time accident (LTA), and achieved a "first" on Aug. 13, 2011, by attaining ten years since the last LTA.

The USNS Effective has five Maersk Line Ltd. Safety Recognition Awards and seven James C. Devlin Awards decorating its display bulkhead.

All of the crew members onboard, and ashore on vacation, are proud of the ship's safety and performance records. The ship's accomplishments are the result of a commitment to safety.

In the recent years, there have been individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the ship's performance and safety record. My counterpart, Capt. John Barnett, Chief Engineer Renee Justice, Chief Mate Barry Smith, former Chief Mate Kirk Rhoda, who is now master of the USNS Able, and former First Assistant Engineer David Waligora deserve singular recognition for their outstanding contributions over the years.
