Grand opening of AMO Headquarters slated for June 7

All American Maritime Officers members and their families are invited to the grand opening of the AMO Headquarters building in Dania Beach, Fla., on June 7 beginning at 10 a.m.

The grand opening will take place a day after the regularly scheduled AMO monthly membership meeting and dedication ceremony, which will be held at the AMO Headquarters building on June 6 beginning at 1 p.m.

"We're extremely pleased to be opening AMO headquarters for business," said AMO National President Tom Bethel. "We will now have all union offices consolidated under one roof for the convenience of the members, an ideal setting for our membership meetings, a place to invite members of Congress and other dignitaries and a professional setting to meet with contracted companies and prospective AMO employers. It's a beautiful and impressive building - a headquarters the membership can be proud to call home."

The dedication will be the culmination of more than a year of construction and a major milestone for the union, which has never had a true headquarters. Construction on the building began in October 2009 when union members broke ground for the project following a union-wide secret ballot referendum in which AMO members voted to approve construction of the building by a 66 percent margin.

The new headquarters will house the AMO Dispatch, Member Services, Accounting, Editorial and union Administration. It will also serve as a meeting space for union meetings and as a venue to hold special events.

The most recent aerial photographs of the headquarters building are available online.
